Parent and Player Code of Conduct

GENERAL
Norski Soccer Club expects that all participants will maintain a high standard of conduct at all times and will enforce the standard firmly and fairly.

STANDARD OF CONDUCT
1. Be a good sport whether you win or lose. Show a positive attitude toward your teammates, coaches, game officials, and spectators watching the game.

2. Parents and spectators. You are expected to cheer for good sportsmanship and plays; no matter who makes them.  Will respect the designated coach and minimize confusion among players by abstaining from coaching from the sidelines.  Will interact in a positive and cooperative manner with the parents and spectators from the opposing team.  Will let the referee do his/her job, they are learning along with each of us.  If the safety of the players is a concern the coach will acknowledge and address the referee in a respectful manner.

In the event that there’s a conflict of opinion between parent and coach; the parent shall wait 24 hours before face-to-face contact with the coach. The parent should contact:

  • Discuss the issue with the team manager

  • Compose an email with concern(s) addressed to both coach and manager

  • Parent and Coach arrange a time to discuss the issue

  • If the issue can’t be resolved then DOC will get involved

3. Respect the people you play against. After all, without them, you would have no one to play with. Address no comments to opposing players, coaches, spectators, or referees unless your comments express genuine friendship and respect; or unless they constitute a direct response to questions by game, league, or tournament officials. In other words, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all!”  We play the game of soccer with our feet, not our mouths.

4. Follow the rules. Your team, the league, and soccer, in general, all have rules for practices and games. Practices and games are more fun and safe within the rules.

5. Be there for your team! Players are expected to be at all team activities and to arrive on time with the proper equipment and prepared to play. Players are expected to be at all team activities even if they are unable to actively participate. The guideline for player attendance at team activities is: if the player is able to go to school, she/he is expected to attend the team activities. The converse is also true: if the player was unable to attend school, then the player should not attend the team activity. Whenever a player is unable to attend a team activity, the player is expected to let the coach and team manager know in advance in writing or via telephone. Unexcused absences and other disciplinary matters will be handled in accordance with the team policies set by the coach at the start of the season.

6. Player Positions are the discretion of the coach. Players play at positions assigned at the sole discretion of the coach. Parents/Players should not demand to play or not play certain positions. Members must remember that they are playing structured and competitive soccer where the coach will play each child at their best position for the team and for their individual development. Because the program goals include improvement of each participant’s soccer skills and knowledge, coaches can, when appropriate, use game and practice situations to teach new positions to players.

Other Sports - Phasing in and out of each soccer season
NSC asks that families take into consideration the time of year in which their child is participating in another sport or activity. With all respect to the other activity or sport, we ask that you finish that season out with that sport until it has completed. Once it is completed, soccer becomes your primary sport until your season has finished completely.  You can join other sports or activities while in the same season as soccer, however, we ask that they become secondary until the soccer season finishes out and then they can become the primary.  Last-minute unavailability for a game or tournament to partake in what NSC would consider the secondary sport or activity is unacceptable.

Any consequences that arise and do not get resolved at the team level will be handled by the NSC Director of Coaching and finally if needed by the NSC Board of Directors.
