FAQ's Tryouts

  • Why UNION?

    • Simply put, with more numbers we can provide every player on each team the best and most consistent learning environment possible throughout each team based on where they are at in their development and commitment levels. Fostering a positive learning environment where all players can develop over time with confidence and success at their own rate.

  • Will all teams in the 10U-14/15U age groups be UNION teams?

    • Yes, all teams in these age groups will be considered UNION teams. The goal of the UNION is to group players of “like-minded and like-abilities” on each team within an age group. However, lower-level teams could be made of players that are primarily from one community to make more socially based teams over ability.

      • UNION Premiere

      • UNION Select

      • UNION Red

      • UNION Purple

  • My child does not want to play on a union team, can they continue to play on an SPSC or NSC team?

    • To be more inclusive versus exclusive all teams in the 11U - 114/15U age groups will be called UNION teams. That being said, the top team or two in an age group/gender will in most cases be assembled based on player abilities depending on overall numbers in the age group. Potentially the second team but a higher possibility that the third and/or fourth teams could be assembled based on the community in which the player lives.

  • Where will practices be?

    • There are many variables and logistics that come into play when considering practice locations for teams. Practice locations will work around the coach and coaching structure to better serve all of our members. When and where possible community-based teams will train in their community. If the coach has multiple teams then the teams will most likely have to come to where the coach will be holding their practice as the coach's practices will be back to back. If the coach only has one team then the coach could come to the team and practice where it is most convenient for the majority of the team to practice.

  • What nights will my child’s team practice on along with the times?

    • Teams that practice 3 times per week will either be M/T/R or T/W/R.

    • Teams that practice 2 times per week will either be M/W or T/R

    • 10U & 11U teams will most cases practice 5-6:30 but could end up going 6-7:30

    • 12U Teams will either fall in the 5-6:30 or 6:30-8 Time slot.

    • 13U & 14/15U teams have a higher probability of practicing 6:30 - 8 PM. Especially, first and second teams as they will train under lights in the fall at WSC.

  • Where will games be?

    • Home games will be played in both communities. Balancing out games on the fields will help save on wear and tear providing the best playing surface for all.

    • If the majority of a team is from one community versus the other then home games most likely will reside in the community that has the most amount of players from that community.

  • Will there be tryouts for the 10Us?

    • Yes, but there are two choices

      • Player's interested in playing up an age group in 11U as an entire birth year team. Meaning all players on the team will be born in the same birth year. Individual players playing up will be at the discretion of the DOC’s.

        • If your 10U player has signed up and paid for the 10U experience prior to tryouts and they end up making an 11U team your player fees will be credited/transferred to the 11U appropriate fees.

      • 10U players not looking to play up can still register for their age-appropriate programs back in their respective community clubs.

  • Why were these three age groups (10U, 11U, and 12U) the ones chosen?

    • In the soccer world, the life cycle is relatively short starting at 11U (8 years to 19U) where the decision was to start the UNION at the 10U-12U age groups because this is where you need to start formulating teams to climb the competitive ladders of league play from MAYSA into State league and beyond. Start it later and you are well behind.

  • Will my child have to buy a new uniform?

    • Yes. Options are very limited at this time due to the pandemic so we will do our best to keep costs low

  • Who will the coaches be?

    • We would like to have all teams assigned with coaches before notification offers go out. If that’s not possible we will actively pursue coaches to be in place before the season officially starts.

  • What are the team level expectations for each UNION team within an age group?

    • 1st Team

      • Practices = 3 per week

      • League Games per season = 8-10

      • Tournaments per season = 3

    • 2nd Team

      • Practices = 2-3 per week

      • League Games per season = 8-10

      • Tournaments per season = 2-3

    • 3rd/4th Teams

      • Practices = 2 per week

      • League Games per season = 8

      • Tournaments per season = 2

  • How do the offers and notification process work?

    • Based on your child's age group all offers will be sent out via email on the date listed above in the chart with the earliest time being noon. Note that offers could come out at later times in the day.

    • Once that offer is received the player/family has 24 hours to accept or decline the offer based on the time stamp in the email.

      • Accepting - is a two-step process with the first being emailing the coach/club your acceptance. The second would be to click the accept button in the offer email that will take you to registration where you can make payment.

      • Declining - Email your coach/club your reasons for declining the position along with clicking on the Decline button in the offer email.

  • Can a player request what team they want to play on?

    • Yes and No. A player/family can not request to play up on a higher level UNION team as they need to be invited by the coach/DOC. However, a player/family can request to play down on a team that meets more of their social, financial, or time commitments depending on roster availability.

  • Are there payment plans?

    • Yes, there will be payment plans set up in registration with choices on how frequent along with the amount of each payment. If you need a different payment plan option other than what is provided please reach out to your club registrar to make special arrangements.

    • Both NSC and SPSC Registration systems will have a $1 Demosphere fee on every transaction along with approximately 3% in credit card processing fees.

  • Is there Financial Assistance?

    • Both clubs do provide financial assistance and have certain requirements that must be applied for and approved by each board.

  • If I have questions or concerns, who can I contact?
